Practice Tonight Plus Tournament Info
by posted 05/10/2021

Families,

Just a reminder that we practice tonight from 6-7 pm at Barker Road Middle School.  We will be on the fields to the right of the school, closest to Hopkins Park.

Our games this weekend are in Canandaigua at 11 and 12.  Please let me know at your earliest convenience if you are not available for a specific game time or either game time.  It helps in planning and making sure we have enough girls to play!

Text or email is the easiest/best way to let me know.  (585) 406-3459

I am incredibly proud of the girls! They've come so far since our first practice.  They are getting the hang of the rules and learning how to play and it looks and sounds like they are having a great time!  I loved the pep and sideline cheering on Saturday!  They are really buying into the concept of encouraging their teammates!  We will continue to work on stick skills, passing and catching, ground balls and offesive and defensive positioning and concepts at practice.  If the girls can continue to work on passing and catching and ground balls at home that would be awesome! The more the stick is in their hands the better!

Important Information to Respond To:

I would love to enter a Pittsford team into a tournament or two.

First tournament is the Irondequoit Invitational.  It's on June 13th.  Three guaranteed games.  Round Robin.

The second tournament is the Dick's Sporting Goods Upstate Lax Jam.  It is a one day tournament on Sunday, June 27th in Syracuse.

There would be an additional cost to play in tournaments as tournaments are not included in registration fees.

Please let me know ASAP if you are interested in ONE, BOTH or NONE of these additional opportunies to play.

Thank you!

Sarah

Saturday 5/8 Games
by posted 05/07/2021

Families,

We are looking forward to our games tomorrow against Penfield!

Just a reminder that our game times are pushed back to 10 a.m and 11 a.m.

We did this in order to accomodate our Pre-K and K girls.  Pretty amazing that they are able to get some game experience too!

The Location for tomorrow is Rothfuss Park, Penfield.

Please plan to arrive 30 minutes before the start of your game.

Wear your shooting shirt you got on Monday, Pittsford pinney.... skirt if you ordered one or shorts/leggings/sweatpants are just fine too!

Everyone should wear a mask!

Leadership is something we've talked about with the girls since the first practice.  We discussed ways in which they can lead themselves, encourage their teammates and take risks.  Let's help the girls focus on ways they can lead themselves tomorrow.  Maybe they can lay out their uniform before bed, put their equipment in the car or make their water bottle in the morning.  Any initiative they can take in leading themselves helps build their confidence and leadership skills!

If you are not able to make the game(s) please let me know via email or text (585) 406-3459 so I can make sure we have enough girls for each game!

Follow Pittsford Girls Varsity on Twitter

Pittsford Girls Youth Teams:

Be sure to follow the Pittsford Girls Varsity team on Twitter (@PLaxGirls). They are off to a great start on the season (2-0). Unfortunately, due to COVID, we are not having our usual Big Sister/Little Sister program, but we can still stay connected with them.

Also, you will see updates on Pittsford alumnae who are having much success in college. All of these young women started their lacrosse careers in the same program that you are in now. They all worked hard on the field, in school, and in the community. As a result, they have had many fantastic opportunities after high school.

I have been around long enough to have seen the college players when they were in the youth program, and I can say that they were just like the current players. Most of them played multiple sports (soccer, basketball, field hockey, etc.) and participated in multiple activities (Girl Scouts, music, drama, dance, etc.).

So just have fun, play hard, study hard, do good in the community, and I'm confident that plenty of opportunities will be available for you, too.

Length of girls lacrosse sticks
by posted 04/13/2021

Team:

We have noticed at practices that some girls have sticks that are too long and they are difficult to handle. We recommend that sticks be cut so they are easier to handle.

A good starting point up to 2nd-grade is about 37 inches, from the top of the plastic head to the bottom of the shaft. Actual length will depend on the age and size of the player. You still want the stick to be long enough for them to use for at least another year or two. If in doubt, keep it longer as you can always cut it shorter if necessary. Measure twice, cut once. Sticks can be cut with a hacksaw. Just be careful!

Most youth sticks can be cut at the bottom of the shaft. In this case, be sure to keep the rubber butt end and add back to the shortened shaft. Sticks MUST have the rubber butt end for safety.

You can also usually cut the top off of the shaft, but this means removing the head, cutting, replacing the head, and maybe even pre-drilling a new screw hole or using a self-tapping screw.

If you're not sure what to do, chat with one of the coaches first.

Welcome to Pittsford Girls Lacrosse for 1st/2nd Grades!
by posted 03/22/2021

Welcome to the spring season for Pittsford Girls Lacrosse for 1st/2nd Grades! We are looking forward to a fantastic season!

All details for the season, including the schedule, are on our website under the Girls Youth tab. Here's a direct link to the page specifically for this age group. Be sure to bookmark the link for easy access: http://LeagueAthletics.com/Page.asp?n=107842&org=pittsfordlacrosse.org

We start on Tuesday, April 6. All practices in April are indoors at The Athletic Campus (3195 Brighton Henrietta Town Line Rd, Rochester, NY 14623) in the field house in the rear of the building.

Starting in May, we expect to be outside on Mondays, but the location is to be determined. We will send an update once we know more.

Note that practice days and times are different in April and May.

We encourage you to attend as many practices as possible, but we know families are busy and sometimes there are conflicts. It's absolutely fine to miss a practice, so don't stress too much about it.

Your daughter must have a stick, goggles or helmet, and a mouthguard. Please reply to this email if you have questions about equipment.

Sarah Morgenstern is the coordinator for this age group. Her email is sarah@team-tights.com. Feel free to contact her with any questions about the program.

Enjoy your spring break and be ready to play in April!

Go Pittsford!
